This meeting will examine the role of theatre producers within the theatre ecosystem of the past thirty years and explore why contemporary theatre and the performing arts so urgently need producing professionals — and what competencies this relatively new profession brings.
“A theatre producer — in the broadest sense, a person working in theatre and the wider field of the performing arts — is a profession hardly visible in public discourse, despite playing a crucial role in the realization of artistic events.”
According to the report, producing work happens “in between”: producers connect people and domains that make performances possible; they build conditions, guard budgetary and time frameworks, undertake “strange diplomatic missions”, and navigate a form of solitude that offers agency while carrying the risk of burnout. Do our invited guests see this profession in the same way?
The discussion will open with a presentation of the report “Producing Professionals as Central Figures in the Ecosystem of Theatre and the Performing Arts”, published by the Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute in May 2025.
The debate will be held in Polish with English interpretation.
