Josefina Cerda Puga brings her transgressive performance Feral to Divine Comedy / Boska Komedia from a tour leading from Chile through Berlin and Zurich to Santarcangelo di Romagna. To quote her own words: “I want to create works of art from my body. To transform myself into an object for your collection of beautiful fetishes. (…) This performance stems from the intimacy of my experience as a woman, actress, virtual sex worker, dominatrix, and an object. Through sound, sex toys, orgasm, my voice and my body, I want to build a bridge between my tale of sexual excess and the audience – where nudity is not only physical, but also emotional, ethical, and political.” Feral provokes questions about how art connects with sexuality, about the viewer’s position in relation to an artist exploring her sexuality through performance, and, eventually, about where repressed sexual energies are channelled.
Josefina Cerda Puga, whose work will be presented in Poland for the first time at this year’s Divine Comedy / Boska Komedia, is a Chilean performance artist and sound designer. Her artistic practice explores the relationships between body, sexuality, archive, sound, and fantasy. She is interested in pleasure as it relates to power dynamics, and in sensuality being the context for critical and subversive strategies. Her personal and professional activities include online sex work and the exploration of BDSM practices in intimate, professional, and performative contexts.
