Ladodeja. a performance devised and directed by Oskar Sadowski, is an immersive journey into the world of collective subconsciousness, an immersive ritual with the audience participating in a revision of Slavic mythology, become part of a neo-pagan, interactive experience. Sadowski’s projects meld theatre, film, opera, VR, alternative music, and activism, consistently pushing the boundaries of traditional theatre, transforming urban tissue including churches, mansions, city squares, apartment windows, and virtual spaces into settings for his work.
Ladodeja serves the director’s exploration of the relationship between the audience and perf ormer, transporting participants into the land of the forbears, where the strength of machismo gods con fronts the ancient power of femininity: repressed and mangled by patriarchal narratives. In this allusion to contemporary discussions about body, identity, and technology, the body, being more-than-human, yet rooted in earth, fluids, blood, and nature, becomes a hybrid.
Ladodeja mixes elements of performance art, dance, audio-video installation, theatre, and virtual reality.
It is the product of Sadowski’s close collaboration with artists Martix Navrot and Jagoda Wójtowicz, and performer and choreographer Paulina Pawłowska. AR technology enables active participation in the ritual and brings to life the immaterial, magical dimensions characteristic of Slavic
beliefs.
* LADODEJA is a Slavic word-spell, strengthening and accelerating the process of creating reality from “thought-forms”, revealing ignorance and helping to free oneself from it, but above all sensitizing to the beauty of the world around us.
