A theatre introspection of the subject of euthanasia, stretched between performance art, a dramatic play, and physical theatre. It draws from Znikanie / Vanishing, a new and unperformed work of Ivan Vyrypaev. A young artist at the threshold of a global career decides to undergo assisted suicide and attempts to justify her decision at a specially convened press conference. The family are confronted with the experience of “a good death” during a breakfast shared with her, yet the necessary words remain elusive. This internationally produced play brings together diverse perspectives on euthanasia, raising fundamental questions about who should decide about our lives. Is it a matter of law, medicine, or religion? Euthanasia is legally permissible in specific cases in Spain, while in Poland a serious debate on the subject has yet to begin. Norbert Rakowski’s unhurried and at times dreamlike production is another call to find the strength, courage, and means to address the subject. The international cast includes outstanding Spanish actress Socorro Anadón, and Marta Zięba, renowned for her roles in Snow, Fear and misery IV RP, and numerous productions at the Polski Theatre in Wrocław and the Studio Theatre in Warsaw.
